SPF, which is an acronym for Sender Policy Framework, is an email protection system, which is is intended to verify whether an e-mail message is sent by an official server. Using SPF protection for a domain name will prevent the faking of emails made with the domain. In layman's terms: enabling this function for a domain generates a particular record in the Domain Name System (DNS) containing the IP of the servers that are permitted to send e-mails from mailboxes using the domain. Once this record propagates globally, it will exist on all of the DNS servers that direct the Internet traffic. Whenever some email message is sent, the first DNS server it goes through tests whether it originates from an accredited server. In the event it does, it's sent to the destination address, but when it does not come from a server listed in the SPF record for the domain, it is discarded. In this way nobody can mask an email address and make it appear as if you are e-mailing spam messages. This technique is also identified as email spoofing.

SPF Protection in Website Hosting

If you host your domain names in a website hosting account with us and we handle the e-mail addresses for them, you'll be able to activate SPF protection for them with a few clicks in your Hepsia Control Panel. This service is accessible in its own section where you can see which domains are already secured. For the ones that aren't, you will be able to enable the SPF protection option and manage numerous things in the process - the hostnames of the mail servers that are permitted to send messages from your e-mails, the IPv4 and IPv6 addresses of these servers, as well as to create a rule that email messages can be sent only if your domain names have our MX records. The last choice is the most secure one, and it can be used when we take care of the emails for your domains and you're not using another email service provider. The newly generated records will propagate within 1 day and nobody will be able to forge the FROM field in an e-mail using your addresses.

SPF Protection in Semi-dedicated Hosting

The SPF protection feature comes with all Linux semi-dedicated hosting packages, so when you host your domain names in an account on our cloud website hosting platform, you will be able to use this particular service without difficulty for all your domain names. The Hepsia Control Panel, which comes as standard with the semi-dedicated accounts, has a rather easy to use interface, which means that you will not need to be proficient in the use of computers to secure your email addresses. You'll simply need to type the hostname and the IP of each mail server that you would like to be permitted to send out e-mails from your addresses and immediately after that the updated record will be activated for the domain name that you've selected. As an extra option, we will also allow you to limit the outgoing e-mail messages and secure your mailboxes further by allowing email messages to be sent only when the domain involved contains our MX records i.e. the emails for the domain should be handled here and not by another company. In this way you'll have even better control and there will not be a chance for somebody to forge your e-mail addresses for harmful uses.
